Introducing our Staff and Governing Board
Pastor Jake Beaty
I grew up in an off-grid log cabin my parents built above Lake Chelan, WA. I’m a former ship’s captain and volunteered with a Christian disaster relief and humanitarian aid shipping organization, taught high school science in Bolivia, was a classic car shop manager in Memphis, TN, and felt called to preach from the age of 22. My beloved wife since 2012, Jennifer, is from Texas and ran an orphanage in Bolivia for eleven years. She and I met there in Cochabamba, Bolivia. We moved to Ketchikan from Birch Bay, WA. I’m the father of twelve kids: three adopted sons from Bolivia—Joel, Michael, and Samuel; five children in heaven with Jesus—Eden, Gabriel, Gabriela, Hope, and Quinto; and four bio daughters—Sophia, Lydia, Caledonia, and Ana Rose. I am licensed with the Christian and Missionary Alliance and have begun an expected two-year pursuit of Ordination. I've been serving at the Clover Pass Community Church since May 2024, and we have been blessed beyond measure. I look forward to meeting you!
Meet our Elders

Mike Cooke
Mike Cooke was born and raised in a small community in the UK. He attended the local schools and after leaving senior school went to college to study sciences and mathematics. He met his wife Chris in 1964 and they married in 1969. When His boys were born, Chris became a stay at home mom. In 1976 she became a Christian, and following that, both their lives changed dramatically. Mike became a believer a year later in 1977, but it took a long time before he understood the need to really get involved and do something for the Lord. Their family made the move to Ketchikan in August 1991. The applications for resident status took a long time to process so in 1992 they moved to a small community in Canada until their visas were approved in 1994. On returning to Ketchikan, Mike immediately started working on outreach to POW and beyond, as well as the cruise ship industry. He planted churches in POW, on cruise ships, and in the jail. He traveled to numerous countries to support contacts from the cruise ships and other sources. “I now support myself by working and intend to carry on until the Lord says, ‘That’s enough.’ ”
Mike’s interests outside of church life are woodworking and cycling (when he was younger), and his family.

Wayne Brown
Wayne Brown was born and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska, where he attended school and raised his family. Both of his daughters were born in Ketchikan, and his parents were from Canada. In December 1963, Wayne was saved at a revival service in the Nazarene Church. Later, seeking God calling him deeper a deeper, Wayne asked God to fill him with His Spirit. Since then, he has felt called to pray for others’ healing, teach, and encourage. He enjoys reading the Bible, praying for others, and seeking God, always feeling he is still learning.
Wayne met his wife, Hope, at the Nazarene Church, where they later married. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.
Wayne’s ministry includes praying for healing, leading Wednesday night devotions, and facilitating a Sunday night small group. He serves on the church board and as an Elder.
Wayne has a passion for old cars and trucks, which he continues to enjoy working on.
Jodi Albertson
Praise Team Leader
Jodi Albertson is grateful for her rich family history of faith, which has shaped her own spiritual journey. Since moving to Alaska in 1971, she has built a fulfilling life here with her husband and children, deeply involved in her church community. She has the blessing of living next door to her Mom, and although she lost her Dad in 2017, he has left a tremendous impact on her life. Jodi enjoys hiking, kayaking, and creating special gatherings to celebrate loved ones. As the praise team leader at Clover Pass Community Church, she heads the Ministry Leadership Team of Music and serves on the governing board, passionately guiding the congregation in praise and spiritual growth.
Scott Walker
Bookkeeper and Treasurer
Scott Walker was born in Newberg, Oregon, and as a kid his family moved around Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, before settling in Ketchikan, Alaska, in 1979. He graduated from Ketchikan High School in 1982, earned a B.S. in fisheries science from UAF in 1988, and joined the ADF&G, focusing on commercial fisheries management. Raised in a Christian home with church at its core, Scott committed his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized as a teen. His family joined CPCC and it immediately became their home church. After some spiritual bumps during his college years, the Lord brought Scott back to Himself in a big way at the Thorne Bay Church on Prince of Wales Island.
Scott’s parents, Chuck and Naomi, were spiritual leaders; his father was a lay pastor, and his mother served in music, teaching, and women’s ministries. Scott married Rosie Marie in 1991, and they have a daughter, Jenna, studying in Tucson, Arizona.
After seat warming at CPCC for many years as a young man, Scott was asked to become a deacon in the church, which has been his true calling. He’s served on the church school board, governing boards, deacon boards, and praise team, and now acts as part-time bookkeeper and treasurer, addressing church needs as God calls.
Scott loves Southeast Alaska’s wilderness, enjoying fishing, hiking, and beach combing.
Abby Oberg
Missions Coordinator
Abby grew up in Burkina Faso and Senegal in West Africa. Her schooling experience was quite varied: she was homeschooled, attended an international school, spent a year in public school in the U.S., graduated from a Christian high school, and later attended university in California. She also completed a year online while living in Senegal and ultimately graduated from Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. It has been quite the journey, and she appreciates looking back to see how each of those seasons has shaped her.
Abby is deeply grateful to have grown up in a Christian home. Her parents served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance as church planters in Burkina Faso before she was born. From a young age, she loved learning about God and growing in her faith alongside other believers. As she grew older, various life experiences led her to develop a deeper dependence on God and a strong desire for a more personal relationship with Him, where He is truly the center of her life. Her faith journey has had its ups and downs, but through it all, she has come to know more of God’s character, His faithfulness, and His goodness. The fact that He has made Himself known to us and invites us into a personal relationship with Him still leaves her in awe.
Abby loves her family. Her parents are currently serving in Senegal, overseeing several international workers (missionaries) who serve across Africa. She has two older brothers—one of whom is married, so she also has a wonderful sister-in-law—and a younger sister. At the moment, all of her siblings live in Northern California, though given their upbringing, she often wonders how long they’ll stay in one place.
Abby is honored to serve as the Missions Coordinator at Clover Pass Community Church. In this role, she helps provide hospitality for guests staying in the church guest house, participates in and helps lead mission groups that come to serve at CPCC (as well as trips the church takes), and acts as a liaison between CPCC and the missionaries the church supports. She is still new to the role but is excited to learn, grow, and continue developing her ministry experiences there.
Outside of church life, when she has the time, Abby loves to bake and cook—especially when it means sharing a meal with others—and she enjoys trying foods from different cultures. She also loves playing board games and card games, being outdoors for walks and hikes, and spending time with her family and friends. If time and finances allowed, she would love to travel more and see even more of this beautiful world God has created.
Molly Murdock
Administrative Assistant
Molly Murdock has lived in Ketchikan for most of her life, growing up in a family that instilled a love for God from an early age. Molly's personal walk with the Lord began at a young age. God has proved to be faithful to her through every trial, failure, and joy. As the church secretary, she manages various responsibilities, including creating bulletins and organizing communications, within the church. In her free time, Molly enjoys outdoor activities and cherishes moments spent with family and friends, and continually seeks new ways to grow in her faith and serve God.
Sherri Houtcooper
Governing Board Member
Sherri Houtcooper grew up in Bridgewater, South Dakota, before becoming a nurse later in life, earning her ADN at the age of 51. After moving to Ketchikan in 2002, Sherri found her spiritual home at Clover Pass Community Church three years ago, revitalizing her faith journey. Married to her husband Wayne since 1984, they have three children and nine grandchildren who bring joy to their family, as well as a daughter from a previous marriage. Sherri's passions include quilting, growing a vegetable and flower garden, and cultivating a fun space in her yard for her grandchildren to enjoy. At CPCC, she serves as a greeter, has led a lady’s Bible study, and is dedicated to making everyone feel welcome. She also serves on the church’s governing board.
